Comment on the presentation

(presentation from Aria and Élise)

The presentation from Aria and Élise was about the sugar festival.

In my opinion, their presentation was well built and really long so they could explain everything about it. Their presentation was very interesting, because the sugar festival is something from another culture and I didn’t really knew something about it. So I really learned something new with this presentation. The dishes from this festival also looked very tasty!

My favourite restaurant

Jambalaya

So this is the jambalaya in Diepenbeek. It’s a special kind of restaurant because you can eat crocodile, kangaroo,… there. The restaurant itself is decorated in an australian theme that makes it look very cozy!

We also live next to it so we eat there regularly. It’s not just that we go there because we live next to it, it’s because the dishes in that restaurant are so delicious! There is only 1 small negative aspect, the waiting time is pretty long. But I can certainly tell you that it’s worth the waiting!

My favourite dish

Macaroni with broccoli and a crispy layer of cheese on the top.

ingredients:

340 g high fiber elbows like Ronzoni Smart Taste

11/2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup minced onion

1/4 cup flour

2 cups skim milk

1 cup fat free chicken broth (vegetarians use vegetable broth)

227 g (2 cups) reduced-fat sharp cheddar (Cabot 50%)

salt and fresh pepper to taste

340 g fresh broccoli florets (I used pre-cut bag)

2 tablesspoons grated parmesan

1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbscooking spray

cooking spray

recipe:

1. Cook pasta and broccoli together in a large pot of salted water, according to package directions for al dente (or slightly under cook 2 minutes). Spray a baking dish with cooking spray.

2. Preheat oven to 375°F.

3. In a large, heavy skillet, melt butter. Add onion and cook over low heat about 2 minutes, add flour and cook another minute, or until the flour is golden and well combined. Add milk and chicken broth and whisk, raising heat to medium-high until it comes to a boil; cook about 5 minutes or until the sauce becomes smooth and thick. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Once the sauce is thick, remove from heat, add cheese and mix well until cheese is melted. Adjust salt and pepper to taste, add cooked macaroni and broccoli and mix well. Pour into prepared baking dish. Top with grated cheese and breadcrumbs. Spray a little more cooking spray on top.

5. Bake for 15-20 minutes, then broil for a few minutes to get the breadcrumbs golden

Why do I like this dish so much?

I like this dish so much because I really like macaroni ofcourse! I like the taste of it, it isn’t hard to make and it is kinda healthy with the broccoli in it. My mom makes it always a little bit different. e.g. Sometimes she puts salmon in it and the other time she puts chicken in it. This makes the dish always so suprising, I never get tired of eating it!

Did you know?

1. The red food-coloring carmine, that is the outside layer of a skittle, is made from boiled cochineal bugs, wich is a type of beetle source: https://www.buzzfeed.com/justinabarca/food-facts-that-will-blow-your-mind (fact 25)

2. The origin of the ice cream cone. The ice cream cone is actually invented accidentally. In the year 1904 at the St. Louis World’s Fair was a man that sold waffle-like pastries. There was also a shop close to him that sold ice cream, but unfortunately he ran out of dishes. So the man that sold these waffle-like pastries decided to roll them up and gave the to the man that sold the ice cream so he had something to put his ice cream in. source: https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/8-famous-foods-discovered-by-mistake (fact 3)

4. The first food ever to be microwaved was popcorn, wich went well for the experimenter, but the second thing that was microwaved was an egg. This didn’t went well, it exploded. popcorn wasn’t invented this way, it already existed since 3600BC. sources: 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn

5. Did you know that food that you eat regularly contains poo or insect parts? E.g. candy bars, ground beef,… I’m not kidding, this was really tested. People have tested 300 packages of ground beef, and the result was stunning. Every piece they tested had fecal contamination ( insect parts,…)

So what else can I tell about myself? I have an idea, my hobbies! First of all, every saturday I do baseball and it’s awesome! second of all, I really like to game a lot, mostly with my friends. It’s really a fun way to spend time! And at least I also do mountainbiking. I don’t do it as much as the other 2 things because the weather has to be good,… But it’s always so awesome!

Thank you for being in my blog, I really hope that you will enjoy it!
